Jean Paul - the literary prodigy

Bildnis Jean Paul

This year, we are celebrating the 250th birthday of outstanding poet Jean Paul (21/03/1763-14/11/1825), whose life and works are closely connected to Upper Franconia.

Under the title “Das Schreibwunder Jean Paul” (Jean Paul, the literary prodigy), the Kunstverein Kulmbach [Kulmbach art association], together with the Bayreuth and Hof art associations, will be holding an exhibition in the Hofstube of Plassenburg Castle from 16th November 2013 to 26th January 2014. Contemporary paintings, graphic works and much more are dedicated to Jean Paul’s life story and works.

To mark the opening of the exhibition on 16th November 2013, a reading from Jean Paul’s "Des Luftschiffers Giannozzos Seebuch" by famous actor Hans-Jürgen Schatz will take place in the Festsaal [ball room] room of Plassenburg Castle at 5pm.

The reading will last for around 80 minutes, after which the exhibition will be opened.

The reading and the exhibition opening are both free of charge and promise to be a treat for the eyes and ears.

This is an opportunity not to be missed.
